Cloudy skies are NOT the enemy. ☁️✨

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is, “Oh no… it’s supposed to be cloudy for our session.”

Friend, let me tell you something…

Some of my absolute FAVORITE images have been taken on overcast days.

While everyone is hoping for bright sunshine, photographers are often secretly loving those soft, cloudy skies because they create some serious magic.

Here are a few reasons I actually get excited when I see clouds in the forecast:

☁️ Soft, beautiful light

Cloud cover acts like a giant natural diffuser, creating even light and gorgeous skin tones. No squinting. No harsh shadows. Just beautiful, flattering light.

☁️ More relaxed sessions

Cloudy days often mean fewer people at popular locations, which gives us more space to create and helps everyone feel a little more comfortable in front of the camera.

☁️ All the mood

If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know I love images that feel something. Cloudy skies add depth, emotion, and that dramatic touch that makes a photo stand out.

☁️ Incredible skies

Some of the most beautiful sunsets happen after cloudy days. And let’s be honest… a sky full of texture and color is way more interesting than a plain blue sky.

So if your session day rolls around and the forecast isn’t full of sunshine, don’t panic.

Trust me.

I’ve photographed countless sessions under cloudy skies, and the images turned out absolutely stunning.

The photos below? Every single one was taken on a cloudy day.

Go take a look and tell me cloudy weather isn’t beautiful. 😉
